You know most of the times we read books to escape from the brutality of real life and then you read some book and encounter the utmost reality, this is one of those books. Simply this is an devastatingly upsetting book.

The book revolves around a girl called Nomi (orphaned by war) who has come to India after ten years to shoot a documentary. The rest of the story tells us the dreadful past of Nomi, how she was sexually abused by a so called Guru in an ashram, from where one day she succeeded to run away.
Apart from Nomi there are many other sub-plots which deal with really serious issues of our society. There is a young tour guide who is in love with a young guys but doesn’t know how to confess his feeling. Hence this was also my first LGBTQ read.🌈

The book includes a spectrum of social issues and its one of the best book for gender studies. The question (which are so many) remain unanswered and the book ends as if in the middle of all the chaos.
Its a compelling, thought provokingly beautiful novel. If you want to read something serious with heavy content please give it a go.
